Why hello. I’m Jenny You. I’m a 22-year-old reporter and producer who loves the simple life and taking walks with my pup Kiwi ♥. I’ve got an old soul and young heart. I love snapping photos, spending time in my kitchen, dream about the 40s & 50s, strive on fashion and enjoy a little vinyl and pianoforte. I started jennyunbiyou[dot]com two years ago to share my thoughts, adventures, recipes, DIYs, trends, etc. You can follow me on Twitter to find out what’s going on in this crazy place we call earth. Christmas is in the air! It’s my absolute...

Hello friends! Christmas is in the air! It’s my absolute fave time of the year hands down. We’re starting to see more of the twinkle lights and wreaths, hear more holiday tunes and smell those delicious treats. So just for funzies, I wanted to share with you my wishlist which is made up of shameless wants & needs.

This violet ruffle duvet from UO is dreamy and will send me straight to dreamland. Perfect for a cold wintry night this year.

To go under the ruffle duvet…silky satin sheets. Mmhmm. Enough said.

I’m obsessed with cake pops but sick of rolling a hundred of those little balls by hand. Shortcut anyone?…with this cake pop baller?

For just a little extra inspiration, Bakerella’s book Cake Pops.

I know…I can’t believe I don’t have one either. I think I’ve had this one in the Tiffany blue shade on my list year after year. Essential to every dessert lover out there. I’d be in tears of joy if this one was under my tree, guaranteed.

This turqoise typewriter brings you back to the days of typing Christmas letters to your friends and family for the holidays…right? I just love going into Eclectica on Grand on my weekends to shuffle through their box of letters from the 1900-something years that are all typewritten. Love this typewriter from Etsy! I’d send letters to everyone with this. Too fun.

Every girl deserves a little something something from Tiffany’s. Especially a pretty fashion ring like this one. I love stopping into Tiff’s when I’m near one. As Holly Golightly says: What I’ve found does the most good is just to get into a taxi and go to Tiffany’s. It calms me down right away, the quietness and the proud look of it; nothing very bad could happen to you there.

Have a Very She & Him Christmas. Probably one of the coolest holiday albums out there AND they have it in vinyl!!!! I can just imagine drinking some hot apple cider while baking my holiday cake pops and cookies while listening to She & Him this year. Love!

I think my obsession with Boo has gone over the top. I want this book. I feel that it would make me happy just flipping through Boo’s adorable photos every single day! I want Boo :( Where can I get one?

Every 9 seconds, a woman in the U.S. either experiences domestic violence or is assaulted. It’s the leading cause of injury to women far beyond car crashes, fires, disasters, etc. That’s why one of my Xmas wishes is for women to always have a safe haven to turn to, like Bolton Refuge in Eau Claire and other areas in Western WI. They have an emergency shelter, counseling, transitional housing, legal advocacy, etc. Donate here. They’re good people.

If you’re from the Twin Cities, you’ve probably heard of this organization. It’s a Christian org with a good cause. They feed thousands of children and adults everyday all across the globe. You can go to Feed My Starving Children yourself and check it out and volunteer, pack a meal or donate. What better way to serve than to serve the hungry who have no choice in the situation they’re placed in. Find out more here.

My #1 Christmas wish…to have Kiwi with me again. My apartment unit doesn’t allow pups (except the ones that were grandfathered in from when they were allowed). I’ve been miserable without her. I know it’s probably impossible but it’s still on the wishlist. She’s at my parent’s house now. Miss you my baby!

Xoxo this Christmas,

OMG cannot wait to see this on the runway!! VS Fantasy Bra 2011 = the most beautiful Fantasy bra yet. Yellow canary diamonds, white diamonds, pearls, pretty Tiffany blue…ahhh so dreamy.

I’m not a huge sports fan but I do know that the Packers...

I’m not a huge sports fan but I do know that the Packers are 4-0. So I decided to show some effort as someone who now lives in Wisconsin, and make a Packer themed dessert.

My obsession with red velvet has come into play once again. This time, in the form of cake balls. Love these things! One large bite of moist red velvet cake covered in chocolate on a stick! What’s not to love? It’s also a great alternative to a messed up cake. You know what I’m talking about. Not every cake that goes in the oven turns out wonderful. Why not use your not-so-perfect cake for making cake pops?

Here’s the how to (makes 40):

Ingredients:
-One box of red velvet cake, baked and cooled (or you can make it from scratch)
-8 oz. cream cheese
-2 c. confectioners sugar
-4 Tb. butter
-1 Tb. milk
-1 bag of Wilton candy melts (green)
-1 bag of Wilton candy melts (yellow)
-Sprinkles, chopped nuts, whatever decorations you want
-40 lollipop sticks (the Wiltons and lolli sticks can be found at Michaels)

Recipe:
1) Bake the cake. Let it cool overnight or leave in the freezer for a couple hours.
2) When it’s completely cooled, crumble it into a bowl (this is the fun part) with your fingers or fork into small crumbs.
3) Mix the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar and milk in a separate bowl until smoothed to cream cheese frosting.
4) Pour the mix into the cake crumbs and mix with a spoon, then knead with hands until evenly mixed. Make sure you can roll the cake into a ball about the size of a donut hole.
5) Cover the mix and leave in freezer for a couple hours. It needs to be cold for when you make the balls.
6) Get a large baking sheet and cover with wax paper.
7) Take cold mix and roll into donut hole sized balls and place on baking sheet
8) Pick up each cake ball and stick a lollipop stick into it.
9) Place it on baking sheet and put back in freezer so that the balls harden
10) Melt the chocolate candy melts in two separate double boilers, or microwave (just follow the direction on the bag)
11) Take each cake pop and dip into melted chocolate until entirely covered.
12) Dip it while it’s still wet into sprinkles, etc.
13) Place it on baking sheet with stick facing up (obviously). Or if you want the top to be rounded, you can put the stick end into some styrofoam.

Voila! Bona petit for game time!

thegorgeoushussy:

I’ve become obsessed with my new juicer. It’s such a great way to make a quick healthy treat or meal if you’re really inspired! I’ve had all different kinds but this is by far one of the healthiest and yummiest.

Makes 2 servings
Ingredients:
8 leaves of kale
5 beets
6 carrots
2 apples
1 thumb size piece of ginger

Today, my fambam and I went to Fort Piers for some fun in the sun at the beach. So far, we’ve done exactly what we’ve come here to do: have some good quality family time, relax at the beach, go boating and EAT TONS OF SEAFOOD.

We are seafood addicts. So far the You family has fiested on trigger, sea bass, clams, mussels, oysters, snow crab, and blue crab. And so, in this special vacay edition of my blog, we’re sharing one of the easiest recipes anyone can follow: Steamed Blue Crab

Now most blue crab lie along the Atlantic. That’s why we got ‘em fresh here as you can see. They’re not the biggest of crabs like the snow crab, but they’re way more delicious and tender.

Steamed Blue Crab

Ingredients:
-Live blue crab (a pot full)
-Large pot w/cover
-Water
-Melted butter with garlic and herbs

How to make a mean steamed blue crab:
1) Fill the large pot with water 1/4 of the way — boil.
2) Run the crabs through the sink just to get the icky sea germs off of them.
3) Stick the crabs into the boiling pot and put cover on so they can steam. If you want your crabs frozen before you steam them (in another words — dead), stick them in the freezer before hand.
4) Boil for about a half hour. The blue crabs should turn a bright orange!
5) Grab some tongs and throw the crabs onto a plate and serve with crab cracker and melted butter!

Bon appetit!

Easy peasy. And if you want, add some lemon squeezy to the crab or the butter itself. It’s not the easiest of crabs to pick at once cooked, but the effort is worth it. Delicious.

Time for bed. Going for a jog along the shoreline tomorrow morn! :)

Peace&Love,

We all get a little “curried” away sometimes.
A quick trip to the local farmer’s market prompted a need for curry lunch. Care to join?

Ingredients:
-Pack of curry powder (I used Ottogi Curry)
-Carrots (4) diced
-Potatoes (2) diced
-White onion (1) diced
-Chuck roast or beef sirloin tips (1 lb.) diced
-Vegetable Oil (4 Tb.)
-Water
-Steamed rice (3 cups)

1) Peel the onion, skin the carrot and peel the potato. Dice! Put aside.
2) Dice the roast/beef and cook in large pot with vegetable oil
3) Throw in veggies into the pot and stir, let it cook for 10 minutes with cover on. Stir occasionally.
4) Add water (fill to top of where vegetables are in the pot) and boil
5) Mix curry powder with 1/3 cup of water
6) Pour curry mix to pot of meat and veggies, mix and reduce the temperature to low
7) Let the pot simmer for 10 minutes, turn off heat
8) Serve the curry on top of steamed rice!

Enjoy ♥

Sharing is caring and I care enough about you to share this...

Sharing is caring and I care enough about you to share this music.
If you love red velvet, you’ll love this recipe. It’s super moist and the cream cheese frosting is to die for. I love baking and decorating my baked goods, especially on my days off. Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!

Red Velvet Cupcakes [Makes 24 servings]
Cupcake Batter:
2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons of red food coloring
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda

Cream Cheese Frosting:
1 lb (2 blocks) cream cheese, cold
1 stick butter, at room temperature
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
4 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Recipe:
1.) Heat oven to 350 degrees and line 24 muffin tins with cupcake papers.
2.) Sift together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt into a medium bowl; set aside.
3.) In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about three minutes.
4.) Beat in eggs, one at a time, then beat in vanilla.
5.) Add cocoa powder, then beat in the red food coloring.
6.) Add one third of the flour mixture to the butter mixture, beat well, then beat in half of the buttermilk.
7.) Beat in another third of flour mixture, then second half of buttermilk.
8.) End with the last third of the flour mixture.
9.) In a small bowl, mix vinegar and baking soda [fizz!]
10.) Add vinegar mixture to the cake batter and stir well to combine.
11.) Fill cupcake cups with cake batter until they are about 3/4 full.
12.) Bake for 20-22 minutes, rotating pans halfway through. Cupcakes are done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the cupcakes completely before frosting!

For Cream Cheese Frosting:
1.) Electric beat the cream cheese and butter on medium-high speed until well combined and smooth, about 3 minutes.
2.) Mix in the vanilla extract.
3.) Gradually beat in the powdered sugar until totally incorporated, increase the speed and then beat until smooth.

Decorating:
You can frost the cupcakes with a frosting piper. Add a fresh rasberry on each cupcake and brush on melted marmalade on the berry!

Enjoy!
